Thank you :D But I feel like cheating - some of this stuff is painted a while ago - I just got permission to post it now :) So I might be not as hardworker as you imagine me <_<

mmm it's complicated XD I'm self-taught and I was wandering in the dark for a while.. took me some time to understand what I should do. I actually attended an artschool, but they were all about modern art, so they screw with my mind for a while, almost drove me nuts, while trying to change me and "open my mind". So I graduated and started learning by myself.. -_-

Yeh I get wut u mean. I kinda started art from digital with tutorials on Youtube few years ago. I think i got good fast with photoshop but i forgot to learn about the fundamentals. What happened is that I was fed up getting stuck all the time, spending 2hours replacing a bad arm, thats why i left art for a while. Trying to build a masterpiece each time, better than the last one was a bad discouraging thing. Now im back, i think i understand now, i ll have to study a lot before getting confident with my brush strokes.

Yeah, we have a similar stories here. I was painting for long too, thinking that hard work and detailing can save any painting, until I discovered fundamentals hahaha And I'm talking with you not about few years, but about 15 years of struggling. My first digital paintings were made with mouse and took me months XD  And I was crushed with critique. Seriously. Imagine how frustrating it can be - all the time lost. But at least I see the path now :) Better now than never. Next generation of artists will have it easier, with wacoms, gumroad, patreon ,level up and other goodies. So don't get discouraged that easily.

I'm not trying to paint new painting better than a previous one. Each painting is a different story to tell, what should improve with time is your ability to express these stories in a more clear way. It's just another way of communicating your ideas. So instead of thinking of just a visual aspects and fundamentals, maybe you should start thinking how you use all of them to strengthen your point. Cause all these are tools as well. Of course some tools are hard to learn, but don't forget that tools are tools - what important is what you create with them

Yep wise tips here :-) I like ur story & truely mine is quite similar. btw Im not struggling anymore, im just back to studies for good, i just dont lose my time & energy anymore on masterpieces. Cuz each time I draw I feel like im learning something, it feels like having a goal now, not afraid to make bad art.
Sry if my english isnt perfect or strange, still learning :-)

Yeah, me too - I'm doing my own graphic novel. I've started it mostly to have some concept for my paintings, instead of searching for some random themes, but it turned to be a project of my life,as epic as it sounds hahaha So I'm mostly concentrate to tell this story the best I can. I work on concepts of locations and characters.
Btw I've started this free requests thingy yesterday - to to challenge myself to work on other people concepts (kind of clients),to work under really tight time restrictions, to learn to trust more my own imagination - I'm trying to work less with references and to strengthen my visualization skills. Yesterday practice showed me how much I suck :) I worked about hour more than planned and chased lots of shenanigans, instead of knowing what to do. But I'm going to continue working like this. Gotto make a list of my weaknesses and improve. Guess it comes on account of sleep -_- :) My english is not much better I'm afraid, so don't sweat about it hahaha
